Department of West African Crop Improvement Center (Accra, Ghana) Dr. Abu is being honoured for her innovative research that led to the development of protein and provitamin A-enriched maize varieties that are tolerant to abiotic stresses. These varieties are specifically adapted to regions of Africa with nitrogen-poor soils and Striga infestation, thereby contributing to sustainable food security. She is also behind the first platform for the production of doubled haploid maize lines in Ghana—a strategic infrastructure that significantly accelerates the creation of new improved varieties.
