"We cannot save the ocean alone, but we are going to do our part with this expedition to inspire and engage for more ocean action."
As part of the Ocean Decade, Haakon Vatle, leader of the One Ocean Expedition, and the Statsraad Lehmkuhl ship crew left Bergen, Norway in April 2025 for a transatlantic ocean expedition spanning three continents for a year — a 12-month global voyage aboard a historic sailing boat combining sail training, ocean science, education and diplomacy to inspire action for a sustainable ocean.
From hosting events during the 2025 UN Ocean Conference in Nice, France last summer to welcoming school children and embarking early-career scientists along the way, the One Ocean Expedition shows how ocean expeditions are powerful levers to promote ocean science across the world.
As the expedition is due to end back in Bergen next month, find out more and follow the crew on its final few weeks: https://www.oneoceanexpedition.com/
