Frankfurt Moves! 2022
Within a bedroom installation, against the background sounds of the hustle and bustle of Lagos city, two men are transgressing cultural constraints and are exploring what constitutes intimacy between black men, and if it is possible at all.
"I have been asking myself some questions recently:
What happens if African men become emotional?
How can we begin to rethink intimacy, softness and vulnerability between African men and boys?
I am interested in Afro-masculinity and intimacy and in our responsibility to becoming men who can love other men."

Emmanuel Ndefo is a movement artist, curator and researcher at the Center for Contemporary Art, Lagos. He is interested in the critical display of the body within architectural and alternative spaces, not excluding museums, galleries, archives etc. Using the body and interactive performances as a tool to understand the relationship between art, audience and space, he believes that a well curated experience of the body moving within spaces can serve as a way of engineering thought, stirring up memories, and challenging narratives.
Femi Adebajo is a multidisciplinary artist from Nigeria, who explores movement as a medium of connection to the human mind. As a choreographer, he carefully researches a specific style before creating patterned movements with musical accompaniment. He creates radical dance movements to express himself in ways that speak to people all over the world. Femi Adebajo has attended a series of workshop and mentorship programmes and has worked with global corporate brands, as well as with Theater der Welt, Monster Truck, Company Christoph Winkler, Hektomeron Theatre Festival (Romania), Irineu Nogueira Dance Program (Munich) and Sanskar Virtual Dance.
"Frankfurt Moves!" is an initiative of the foundation KfW Stiftung aimed at promoting artistic exchange and intercultural dialogue. The residency programme in cooperation with the Frankfurt LAB supports international emerging artists in the performing arts.
