🌍RETHINKING THE SOUTH Symposium I 03. - 05.03.26 📍 VILLA 102, Frankfurt am Main Three Days of Exchange and Encounter Rethinking the South invited participants to develop new perspectives on global interrelationships. The event marked the conclusion of a three-year thematic residency programme developed and organised by the KfW Stiftung in cooperation with Goethe-Institut Salvador-Bahia (Brazil). In Frankfurt, artists, thinkers and indigenous activists shared their work, lived experiences and research approaches through film, performance and moderated discussions. How do different realities of life and forms of knowledge shape our understanding of the world? Thoughts that stay with us: ▫️Ecology as lived culture and as archive. ▫️Gardens as spaces of care and negotiation. ▫️Islands as models for communal living—and their contradictions. ▫️Questions around decolonial practices and the need for new vocabularies. ▫️Utopias not as distant dreams, but as directions to move towards. And always: the importance of education, communication, and exchange in shaping possible futures. Die Veranstaltung bildete den Abschluss eines dreijährigen thematischen Residenzprogramms, das von der KfW Stiftung in Zusammenarbeit mit dem Goethe-Institut Salvador-Bahia (Brasilien) entwickelt und organisiert wurde. In Frankfurt teilten Künstler*innen, Denker*innen und indigene Aktivist*innen ihre Arbeiten, Lebenserfahrungen und Forschungsansätze in Form von Filmen, Performances und moderierten Diskussionen. Wie prägen unterschiedliche Lebensrealitäten und Wissensformen unser Verständnis der Welt? Gedanken, die uns begleiten: ▫️Ökologie als gelebte Kultur und als Archiv. ▫️Gärten als Räume der Fürsorge und der Verhandlung. ▫️Inseln als Modelle für gemeinschaftliches Leben – und ihre Widersprüche. ▫️Fragen rund um dekoloniale Praktiken und die Notwendigkeit neuer Vokabulare. ▫️Utopien nicht als ferne Träume, sondern als Richtungen, in die wir uns bewegen können. Und immer: die Bedeutung von Bildung, Kommunikation und Austausch für die Gestaltung möglicher Zukünfte.
