Dr. Raed Rajab Al-Baba from Al-Awda Hospital in Nuseirat discusses the hunger crisis in Gaza

With Israel blocking almost all aid into #Gaza, including food and baby formula, mothers and their children are enduring a desperate battle to survive each day. Dr. Raed Rajab Al-Baba works at ActionAid's partner hospital in Gaza - the Al-Awda Hospital in Nuseirat. He shared with us how severe shortage of infant formula has forced some mothers to use legume water and herbal mixtures - while these may temporarily fill hunger, they carry dangerous risks, gastroenteritis, food poisoning, anaemia, delayed growth, inability to move, and dehydration, often worsened by the use of contaminated water. With ActionAid's support, Al-Awda Hospital works to treat these children despite limited resources. The hospital operates as an integrated team, striving to mitigate catastrophic complications despite scarce supplies, with the ultimate goal of restoring children’s health and giving them a chance at recovery in the face of crisis.
