"One of the important things for the Minamata Convention is to encourage a monitoring programme of the mercury in regions like the Amazon". Watch Fernando Trujillo's message at #MinamataCOP6. The conservation scientist and 2024 ROLEX National Geographic Explorer of the Year underscored that these monitoring programmes should be long term and led by the governments: "With all this information, we need to produce databases that will be public, because we have a lot of information in the region but it is very dispersed, and we need to put it together so governments can see the scale of the problem".
