A place of contrast – the Hindu Kush Himalaya holds some of the world’s most precious ecosystems offering resources to peoples’ livelihoods. Yet, these bounties are unguarded and threatened by climate change and biodiversity loss. Regional estimates put a staggering 12 trillion USD financing gap until 2050 for the region to mitigate and adapt to climate change. Putting a heavy price of 769 billion per year for countries of the HKH to address their climate solutions. ICIMOD’s response is leveraging investment through convening stakeholders within the funding space to shore up needed funding to support climate action. Part of our initiative, the Hindu Kush Himalaya Investment Conference 2026 brought together stakeholders from the financing community to gather ideas, plan together, and collaborate in shoring up needed financing to address pressing shared challenges in the Himalayas.
