Polarization of alcohol consumption in times of crisis: what can we learn from Ukraine’s drinking?

The WHO Country Office in Ukraine and the WHO Regional Office for Europe organized a joint webinar to examine how the war has impacted drinking behaviors in Ukraine, revealing signs of polarization — where, during times of crisis, some individuals increase their alcohol use while others reduce or stop entirely. The webinar will present new, previously unpublished survey data on alcohol consumption in Ukraine from 2023 and 2024 and will feature discussions on public health responses along with insights from policymakers, health experts, researchers, and youth.
