Island Voices for Nature: EP 1 - Dr Vikash Tatayah | Conservation Director MWF

Mauritius is internationally known both for extinction and for remarkable conservation recovery stories. Joining us for the episode of Island Voices for Nature is Dr. Vikash Tatayah, Conservation Director at the Mauritian Wildlife Foundation, who has spent more than two decades working to protect some of the island’s most endangered species and fragile ecosystems. From the recovery of the Echo Parakeet and Pink Pigeon to ecosystem restoration and emergency conservation response during the Wakashio oil spill, his work reflects both the urgency and the hope surrounding biodiversity conservation in Mauritius. Island Voices for Nature is a production of the UNDP Mauritius and Seychelles Multi-Country. The podcast series brings together environmental advocates, scientists, conservationists, policymakers, youth leaders and sustainability champions to discuss the present and future of our islands. Together, we explore climate resilience, ocean governance, biodiversity conservation, sustainable development and the human connection to nature. © 2026 UNDP Mauritius and Seychelles.
