Sewage and Survival - Documentary by Fouzia Jamil
Karachi, home to over 21 million people as per the 2023 census, reflects a growing urban divide. Nearly 75% of its population lives in around 1,000 informal settlements, of which only 565 are legally recognized. In many of these areas, untreated sewage fills the streets, restricting movement and exposing residents to serious health risks including dengue, malaria, and cholera.
This documentary by Fouzia Jamil, produced under Frames of Change by Accountability Lab Pakistan in collaboration with GMI - Gender Special, highlights how inadequate infrastructure and urban inequality are shaping everyday survival for millions.
