Psychological support needed for children & families n Venezuela

Our thoughts are with the people of #Venezuela. Plan International's Regional Director for the Americas, Carmen Elena Alemán Brizuela , spoke with Al Jazeera English about the devastating earthquakes in Venezuela. On Wednesday 24 June, two powerful earthquakes struck Venezuela. The disasters, measuring 7.2 and 7.5 in magnitude, hit within seconds of each other, bringing down buildings, cutting power and blocking roads. Venezuelan authorities have declared a state of emergency. Carmen Elena highlighted the urgent need to place children and young people at the centre of the humanitarian response, emphasising that while lifesaving assistance is the immediate priority, long-term mental health and psychosocial support will be essential for recovery.
