Food Fortification: Fighting Malnutrition in India

Today in India, more than 730 million people are benefiting from fortified rice. Rice enriched with essential vitamins and minerals is distributed at scale to combat widespread micronutrient deficiencies. This major step was taken by the Government in 2021. They target pregnant, breastfeeding women, and they target children studying in Government and Government-aided schools. The World Food Programme is working with the Government to improve nutrition for vulnerable communities through this initiative. India is well on its way to reducing malnutrition rates by 2030, a significant milestone in its own ability to reach its full human potential.
