Palestinian Local Responders Risk Everything to Keep Their Communities in Gaza Alive
In Gaza, local partners lead the delivery of shelter, water, and other essentials that help keep people alive—when supplies are allowed in. Heavy restrictions on aid delivery, widespread insecurity, damaged infrastructure, and logistical bottlenecks continue to challenge humanitarian operations. Despite immense obstacles, Palestinian aid workers continue supporting their communities through their own hunger, injury, and loss.
Through the Common Pipeline Programme, IOM works with trusted Palestinian organizations to ensure life-saving supplies reach those most in need. The Palestinian Housing Council (PHC) is one such partner, providing critical shelter items to displaced families across Gaza, when access restrictions allow. From tents and tarpaulins to hygiene kits and water tanks, these supplies are procured, stored, and distributed in coordination with humanitarian clusters, enabling rapid, coordinated responses in an active conflict zone.
This #WorldHumanitarianDay, we recognize the indispensable role and bravery of Gaza’s local responders risking everything to protect and serve their communities.
