Saving Moms and Babies: The Impact of PEPFAR
Dr. Sajida Kimambo-Lyimo, country director of EGPAF-Tanzania, shares how the President's Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR) transformed mother and child health outcomes in Tanzania.
Through sustained investment in the prevention of mother-to-child transmission of HIV, PEPFAR helped lower the transmission rates from 50% to 7% in the past 20 years. This means healthier moms, children, and families.
And the impact goes beyond Tanzania. Studies show that PEPFAR-supported countries saw 25% lower maternal mortality and 35% lower child mortality compared to the expected mortality without PEPFAR’s intervention, according to analysis by KFF.
When we invest in global health and maternal, newborn, and child health (MNCH) programs, we see families thriving.
There is no world health without #MNCH.
