Dr. Sajida Kimambo-Lyimo, country director of EGPAF-Tanzania, shares how the President's Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR) transformed mother and child health outcomes in Tanzania. Through sustained investment in the prevention of mother-to-child transmission of HIV, PEPFAR helped lower the transmission rates from 50% to 7% in the past 20 years. This means healthier moms, children, and families. And the impact goes beyond Tanzania. Studies show that PEPFAR-supported countries saw 25% lower maternal mortality and 35% lower child mortality compared to the expected mortality without PEPFAR’s intervention, according to analysis by KFF.
