Pacific: Investing in rural resilience with PIRAS

The Pacific Islands are home to vibrant cultures, rich ecosystems, and resilient communities. Yet across the region, countries face growing challenges dealing with extreme weather conditions, climate change, economic pressures, and the need to strengthen food systems and livelihoods. Building resilience across these island nations requires collaboration, innovation, and locally driven solutions. The Pacific Islands Rural and Agriculture Stimulus Facility - PIRAS - was first established by IFAD and the Australian Government as a regional crisis-response initiative covering five Pacific island countries to support farmers dealing with the impact of COVID 19.. As markets shut down and imported food was no longer travelling to the islands, the project funded community and market gardens so that people had nutritious food to eat and sell As recovery took hold, the project pivoted, aligning with Government priorities to boost rural resilience through targeted actions that drive long term food security and self reliance.Investing in Pacific communities to give them the tools and training they need to remain resilience in the face of economic and climate shocks. #resilience #pacific #piras #australia For more details you can watch here or read it here. https://www.ifad.org/en/w/rural-voices/in-the-pacific-resilient-rural-communities-see-lasting-growth The International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) is the only international financial institution exclusively focused on transforming rural economies.
