Championing Women Mediators in Sri Lanka for Inclusive Justice
This documentary highlights the vital role women mediators play in ensuring equitable, inclusive dispute resolution, particularly for women. It challenges the functional view of their participation by advocating for responsive policy reforms that affirm women’s right to serve as mediators.
Through the story of Dharmini, a woman mediator and board chairperson from Jaffna, and expert commentary, this documentary explores five key themes: the value of women’s lived experiences in creating just outcomes; the reliance on individual will due to gender-neutral policies; structural and cultural barriers limiting nominations; the need for informal support in the absence of formal provisions; and the call for quotas to ensure equal opportunity.
