Keynote Presentation: Follow the Money | Natural Capital Symposium 2024

Cities are often vilified as biological wastelands incapable of sustaining biodiverse ecosystems. However, this “biological deserts fallacy” overlooks the simple fact that cities are often built in biodiversity hotspots, rich in natural resources that sustain human life as well. If we hope to mitigate and halt global biodiversity loss, it is incumbent on us to build better, more sustainable spaces that reconnect us back to nature. In his lecture, Dr. Chris Schell will discuss how cities provide an extraordinary opportunity to construct a better conservation discipline, one that leverages cities as hubs for biodiversity conservation, collective action, and community. Keynote speaker, Dr. Christopher Schell shares his presentation "Follow the Money: The Complex Relationships Among Socioeconomic Inequalities and Biodiversity" at the 2024 Natural Capital Symposium.
