The role of regional bodies in realisation of the Africa Disability Protocol

The African Disability Protocol (ADP) stands as a landmark instrument for the rights, dignity, and inclusion of persons with disabilities across the continent. The ADP seeks to enshrine locally relevant standards within the broader human rights framework. However, countries still face many challenges; from inadequate awareness to legislative gaps as well as insufficient intersectoral coordination amongst other key issues. Regional learning and collaboration are vital to accelerating progress and ensuring that the ADP’s aspirations translate into tangible change for people with disabilities in Africa, especially within regional blocs whose mandates in social, economic, political is critical for member states within sub regions. Additionally, the regional blocs are crucial in developing and further defining policy integration, implementation and guidance for each specific region. This webinar is the first in a series of many learning webinars, aimed at strengthening stakeholder knowledge on the role of regional blocs in pushing for greater disability including in policy, accountability, role and mandates of regional bodies.
