Women empowering women: advocating for disability rights in Ghana.
In Ghana, a unique project implemented by Sightsavers Ireland has helped strengthen disability organisations for the long term.
Using a women-to-women mentoring model, 27 grassroots women’s rights organisations took part in training. This included advocacy, accessibility and understanding the links between gender and disability.
Veronica, Comfort and Precious are three of the project participants. They share their experiences of the training, what they learned, and how it has changed their activism.
Sightsavers’ Strengthening Civil Society Representation of Women with Disabilities in Ghana project was a two-year initiative funded by the European Union. It launched in May 2024 and concluded in May 2026.
