The National Endowment for Democracy (NED) and the Center for International Private Enterprise (CIPE) support partners around the world building more effective democratic institutions grounded in accountability, transparency, and rule of law. Speaking before the U.S House Appropriations Committee on February 23, Damon Wilson, President and CEO of NED, discussed why support for democracy and freedom abroad helps build more open, accountable, and resilient societies — an outcome that matters for America’s security, prosperity, and global leadership. The National Endowment for Democracy is a private, nonprofit foundation dedicated to the growth and strengthening of democratic institutions around the world. In the last year, NED made more than 1,900 grants to support the projects of non-governmental groups abroad who are working for democratic goals in more than 80 countries.
