CIMMYT: Turning science into resilience. 🌾

For more than eight decades, CIMMYT has been at the forefront of agricultural innovation, working across the world to strengthen smallholder livelihoods and resilience. Our mission is to improve the quantity, quality, and reliability of food production, and to build agrifood systems that are productive, inclusive, and climate-resilient within planetary boundaries. Across cereal-crop systems, we link genetics, breeding, and agronomy to develop disease- and stress-resistant, nutrient-dense maize and wheat. We run testing networks for sorghum, pearl millet, groundnut, pigeon pea, finger millet, and chickpea; establish disease-monitoring systems; and advance regenerative agronomy and soil health. Scientific discovery is transformed into resilience through large-scale seed adoption and productivity-enhancing approaches across Latin America, Asia, Africa and Europe. Together with farmers, governments, and the private sector, we co-create solutions, apply systems analysis, and operate hub models that leverage smart data to improve production, post-harvest management, nutrition, and livelihoods. Data and technology accelerate crop improvement, pest management, and climate adaptation, while expanding access to durable, high-quality seed and essential inputs. By linking immediate agricultural needs with sustainable development goals, CIMMYT scales proven innovations that strengthen smallholder resilience and transform food systems. Even amid challenges such as conflict, economic stagnation, inequality, the climate crisis, and resource degradation, we continue turning science into resilienceβ€”transforming data into information, information into decisions, and decisions into action.
