Why are only 35% of science graduates women? | International Day of Women and Girls in Science

The UN notes that despite young women being more likely than men to progress to higher education globally, women make up only 35% of science graduates. In 2022, just 31.1% of scientific researchers were women. We must do more to achieve gender equity in access and participation in science and research. Hear from some of our current students about the barriers to women and girls entering STEM subjects (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) and how the support they have received, particularly at LSTM, has been so important to them and how they see themselves. LSTM, in partnership with the British Council, is offering five scholarships as part of the Women in STEM scholarship programme, providing funding for women from eligible countries.
