"Europe needs a strong Lithuania to protect our borders and our people" - European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen On 1 September 2025, Commission President von der Leyen visited Vilnius, Lithuania as part of her mission to the EU's frontline member states. Together with Lithuanian President Nausėda, President von der Leyen held a press conference to reaffirm Europe's solidarity with Lithuania and the need to improve the EU's defence posture, at speed and at scale.
