Preventing Postpartum Hemorrhage in Burundi: Saving Mothers’ Lives with Oxytocin
Postpartum hemorrhage remains the leading cause of maternal mortality in Burundi, putting the lives of thousands of women at risk every year. Yet, simple and effective interventions can save lives.
Through the support of the #2gether4SRHR programme, health facilities such as Giharo Hospital and the Musenyi site health center are receiving essential medicines, cesarean kits, blood pressure monitors, and lifesaving supplies including oxytocin and magnesium sulfate.
In this video, healthcare providers and beneficiaries share powerful testimonies on how these interventions are improving maternal care, preventing complications, and ensuring safer deliveries for women, including refugee communities. The video also highlights the ongoing challenges faced by health workers, while calling for greater investment in maternal health services.
Every mother deserves a safe and dignified childbirth.
