#Bangladesh: 'After This Traumatic Event'
'Marginalised people, like women, children, poor people, illiterate people, many of them failed to register,' said Santana Kundu a psychologist and project manager at Gonoshasthaya Kendra (GK) a civil society organisation providing healthcare to underserved communities.
'So in GK, we are treating and providing services to a number of people who are the victims of the July uprising but do not have the Government registration.'
Through our collaboration in the #UnitedAgainstTorture Consortium, IRCT was able to provide GK with a grant of EUR 60k in 2025 to ensure continuity of care for 323 survivors of torture during the crackdown on protesters under the ousted Government of Sheikh Hasina.
Yet #rehabilitation needs in #Bangladesh remain very far from being met, despite the newly elected Government's commitment to provide free, comprehensive medical and psychological care and adequate financial compensation.
That's why IRCT is advocating for an increase in the availability, accessibility and appropriateness of #rehabiliation services provided.
