In the latest issue of #TortureJournal, the authors examine evidence emerging since October 2023 of the mass arrest of Palestinian civilians from #Gaza by #Israel. Drawing on documentation from organisations including OHCHR (2024) and interviews conducted by PCHR, they describe patterns of severe physical and psychological violence across multiple detention facilities. Survivors report beatings, positional torture, verbal abuse, threats, and sexual violence — acts that inflict profound and lasting mental harm. The authors conclude that the cumulative impact of torture, conditions of detention, and release practices may constitute acts of genocide under international law, including causing serious bodily and mental harm and deliberately inflicting conditions of life calculated to bring about physical destruction, in whole or in part.
