30 Years of Saving Children's Lives: How Family MUAC Is Transforming Nutrition in Zambia

How is community-led care helping more children receive life-saving nutrition treatment? For more than 30 years, Ready-to-Use Therapeutic Food (RUTF) has helped save the lives of children affected by severe acute malnutrition. Today, the Family MUAC approach is bringing early detection and treatment even closer to home. 🗣️ "Thirty years later, we now have a bottom-up approach where health workers have trained community-based volunteers, who are able to administer treatment to households at community level," says Mainza Kawanu, UNICEF Zambia. Through Family MUAC, caregivers are empowered to: Identify the early signs of malnutrition at home. Screen their children using a simple MUAC tape. Access timely treatment closer to their communities. Early detection. Community-led care. Better nutrition for children. 🍎 For every child, nutrition. #ForEveryChild #Nutrition #RUTF #FamilyMUAC #ChildHealth #UNICEFZambia #CommunityHealth #Zambia
