World Wetlands Day 2026 Message
Today, we celebrate the connections between wetlands, biodiversity, people, and culture.
This year’s theme, “Wetlands and traditional heritage: Celebrating cultural heritage,” reminds us that wetlands are living landscapes shaped by generations of knowledge and traditions. Along the East Asian–Australasian Flyway, interconnected wetlands, such as Flyway Network Sites, link cultures, countries, and species. These wetlands sustain communities through food and livelihoods, while also providing vital nourishment and safe stopover sites for migratory waterbirds.
