Home to over 650 million people, the LAC region possesses remarkable natural resources and a diverse economic landscape. Yet, it faces persistent structural challenges: 27% of the population lives in poverty, 56% of workers are in informal employment, and 10 million children remain out of school. The region emits only 10% of global greenhouse gases (GHG) but accounts for over half of the world’s disaster-related economic losses relative to GDP. However, renewable energy now represents nearly 33% of the region’s total energy supply, one of the highest shares globally, while under-nourishment (hunger) has declined in recent years. With strong industrial potential and a dynamic private sector, LAC can leverage innovation and align with global trends in decarbonization and digitalization to drive inclusive, sustainable industrial growth.
