UNICRI at CCPCJ35: Advancing Crime Prevention, Justice and Security
During the 35th session of the Commission on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice (CCPCJ), Leif Villadsen, Acting Director of UNICRI, presented the 2025 Report of the Institute’s Board of Trustees, providing an overview of UNICRI’s activities and achievements in supporting Member States in addressing evolving crime, justice and security challenges.
The presentation highlighted how research, innovation and international cooperation continue to support the development of practical solutions that strengthen crime prevention, criminal justice and sustainable development efforts worldwide.
The report underscored key achievements across the Institute’s thematic areas, including the delivery of more than 40 operational research products and over 150 specialized training activities worldwide. It highlighted initiatives aimed at strengthening capacities to prevent and counter terrorism, organized crime and cybercrime, as well as efforts to address the opportunities and risks associated with emerging technologies, including artificial intelligence. The report also showcased progress in enhancing preparedness against chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear (CBRN) threats, advancing the prevention of violent extremism, promoting the rule of law, and supporting international criminal justice cooperation through partnerships and capacity-building activities implemented across multiple regions.
The presentation provided an opportunity to engage with Member States on UNICRI’s strategic priorities and ongoing efforts to support evidence-based policies, strengthen national capacities and foster international cooperation in addressing emerging crime and security challenges.
