What is Collaborative Governance? ft Rajeev Kapoor

Why do some public policy challenges persist despite decades of government intervention? In this video, Rajeev Kapoor, Senior Fellow at the Centre for Social and Economic Progress (CSEP), explains the concept of collaborative governance and why tackling today's complex challenges requires governments, markets, and communities to work together. Traditionally, public policy has been viewed as the responsibility of government alone. But as problems become more interconnected and difficult to solve, there is growing recognition that meaningful solutions require collaboration across institutions, sectors, and levels of government. The video introduces CSEP's new research initiative on collaborative governance, which examines successful examples of collaboration across India to understand what makes partnerships work and how they can improve governance outcomes. The study explores 25 case studies from diverse sectors and geographies, including: • The White Revolution • Mahila Samakhya • National Rural Livelihood Mission (NRLM) • Lakhpati Didi • Urban health initiatives • Disaster management and resilience efforts • Community-led development programmes The research aims to identify the factors that contribute to successful collaboration between governments, civil society organisations, communities, and the private sector, and to develop practical lessons for policymakers. Can collaborative governance help build more effective, inclusive, transparent, and accountable institutions in India?
