Dr Workneh Gebeyehu, paid a courtesy visit to the Chair of the IGAD Council of Ministers and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Djibouti, H.E. Abdoulkader Houssein Omar. Discussions focused on the prevailing regional situation and IGAD’s strategic priorities, with emphasis on strengthening coordination and collective action to advance peace, stability, and resilience across the region. 6 April 2026, Djibouti, Djibouti: IGAD strengthened its partnership with the European Union through a meeting between H.E. The Mission, led by H.E. Mr Mulatu Teshome, former President of Ethiopia, held consultations with key national stakeholders to assess preparedness and support a credible, transparent, and peaceful electoral process. 7 April 2026, Djibouti, Djibouti: As part of its preparatory engagements, the IGAD Election Observation Mission met with the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, the President of the Constitutional Council, and the President of the National Human Rights Commission. Discussions focused on institutional readiness, the legal framework, and the protection of human rights throughout the electoral process. 7 April 2026, Djibouti, Djibouti: IGAD expressed its condolences following the passing of Ambassador Konjit Sinegiorgis. The Executive Secretary paid tribute to her distinguished diplomatic career and her contribution to advancing international cooperation, recognising her role as a pioneer for women in diplomacy in the region. 8 April 2026, Nairobi, Kenya: The IGAD Climate Prediction and Applications Centre (ICPAC) hosted a delegation from the European Union Civil Protection and Humanitarian Aid Operations. The engagement focused on strengthening collaboration to enhance climate services and early warning systems aimed at protecting vulnerable communities from climate risks. 8 April 2026, Nairobi, Kenya: IGAD convened the inaugural meeting of the Community of Practice on Climate, Peace, and Security in the Horn of Africa. The platform aims to strengthen coordination between climate action and peacebuilding efforts by enhancing early warning systems and promoting joint responses to climate-related security risks. 8 April 2026, Arta, Djibouti: IGAD, in partnership with GIZ and the Ministry of National Education and Vocational Training of Djibouti, launched a national engagement on Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET). The initiative aims to strengthen skills development, promote youth employment, and enhance social inclusion through the SIMPI project. 8 April 2026, Addis Ababa, Ethiopia: IGAD supported the National Coordination Mechanism on Migration meeting on Human Mobility in the Context of Disaster and Climate Change (MoDiac). The meeting brought together government officials and partners to strengthen coordination, deepen understanding of climate-induced mobility, and advance a national roadmap integrating these dynamics into migration and development frameworks.
