Strengthening Supply Chains for Micro-Retailers in Jordan
How do you improve supply chains for thousands of small retailers?
This video describes a Market Systems Development (MSD) collaboration between Mercy Corps (Iqlaa Program) and Yaseer that was designed to optimize the supply chain for micro-retailers in Jordan.
Historically, small neighborhood shops (mini-marts) faced significant growth barriers due to fragmented procurement and inefficient logistics. To address this, Iqlaa partnered with a market actor in the domain (Yaseer) to scale a digital B2B marketplace. Through a co-investment model, the partnership successfully digitalized ordering processes and expanded delivery services into underserved regions.
This market-based approach ensured long-term sustainability by aligning development goals with commercial incentives. As a result, the project improved operational efficiency for over 1,200 businesses so far, while fostering a more resilient retail ecosystem and further expanded the services to underserviced areas in Amman.
This collaboration is within the scope of the Informal Livelihoods Advancement Activity (Iqlaa), funded by the United States Government and implemented by Mercy Corps.
