As of 1 December 2025, names of craft and industrial products are eligible for protection under EU law. The EUIPO will now receive the first applications for Craft and Industrial Geographical Indications (CIGIs, a new EU-wide title that safeguards the names of products whose quality, reputation, or characteristics are linked to their geographical origin. A symbol of origin and authenticity, this new intellectual property right strengthens consumer trust and boosts market value, while offering artisans, crafters and producers a powerful layer of legal protection.
