Webinar: The Digital Agriculture Ecosystem for Small-Scale Producers in LMICs. Looking back 5 years
Taking stock of the lively e-discussion that took place via D4Ag community, the webinar brought together some friends (who are also very knowledgeable in the sector), some of whom actively participated in the exchange, to crystallize our reflections. This will help bring the issues into focus in the local, regional and global contexts, and for different stakeholders, from public decision makers to farmers.
The Hub representatives walked participants through a reflective session on how the digital agriculture ecosystem has evolved, with particular attention to small scale producers and LMICs. In addition, main takeaways of the first e-discussion held from April 20th to May 4th where presented. Harvesting from this first e-discussion the panel, extended to anyone who wants to contribute, delineating how the digitalisation for agriculture ecosystem has evolved.
The webinar zoomed in with a bird's eye view by Daniele of the state of different ecosystems across geographies, scales and use cases; Fadi giving us an example that illustrates the specificities of a macro region, the MENA. Ben introduced the need for a national perspective, presenting the concept (and practice) of National Agricultural Data Infrastructures (NAgDI). It finally “lands” at local, grassroot level with some lessons learned presented by Lany, who leads one of the largest small-scale farmers associations in Asia. Finally, Ibrahim summarizes the panel discussion as the bridge between the CTA experience and the Digital Agri Hub, and help reflect on how this initiative has evolved over the last five years.
