Environment Policy Adviser - EU Goods Transport

Reporting to the Manager - EU Goods Transport, the incumbent will provide organisational and legislative support and will carry out IRU's outreach on EU goods transport, with a strong focus on all the main environmental topics relevant for commercial road transport. Working closely with the Manager - EU Goods Transport and the Associate Director - EU Goods Transport, the Environment Policy Adviser - EU Goods Transport will develop trust-based relationships with IRU members, relevant public and private partners, government officials, politicians, industry representatives and other third-party stakeholders.

RESPONSIBILITIES •

Identify and analyse policy, market, and legislative trends and initiatives, implement actions, enabling sustainable operations for transport operators, in line with IRU's positions on EU goods transport matters

  • Draft briefing notes and communication messages, and provide specified input to background

    documents and policy papers, drafting law amendments

  • Undertake policy analysis and disseminate information on EU legislation relevant for EU goods

    transport, with a focus on environmental files In conjunction with other functions, develop and build strong alliances with third party stakeholders Ensure cross-functional collaboration with other IRU departments

  • • • Represent IRU and foster cooperation with partners relevant for IRU's EU goods transports and

    environmental policy

  • Collaborate closely with IRU colleagues in other advocacy functions to ensure a consistent IRU policy

    in road transport Support with administrative tasks, including the management of the EU Goods Transport Liaison Committee (CLTM), and flagship events on specific policy files Support as part of advocacy tasks, project activities in collaboration with key stakeholders and internal partners

  • QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS • • Master level degree in law, political science, European studies or a related field (other relevant

  • Minimum 3 years of experience in EU public affairs, law, policy, or within EU institutions •

    An understanding and experience with EU policy making related to environmental matters and EU institutions (in a transport sector or in a sector related to or relevant for road transport is an asset) Knowledge of EU decision-making processes and procedures. Full-time availability in Brussels with readiness to travel, including to European Parliament sessions in Strasbourg. Proven ability to work in a team, manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines and engage with internal and external stakeholders.
