The World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD) is a global community of over 215 of the world's leading businesses driving systems transformation for a better world in which 9+ billion people can live well, within planetary boundaries, by mid-century. Together, we transform the systems we work in to limit the impact of the climate crisis, restore nature, and tackle inequality.
We accelerate value chain transformation across key sectors and reshape the financial system to reward sustainable leadership and action through a lower cost of capital. Through the exchange of best practices, improving performance, accessing education, forming partnerships, and shaping the policy agenda, we drive progress in businesses and sharpen the accountability of their performance.
Corporate Performance & Accountability (CP&A)
WBCSD's CP&A is seeking to position WBCSD and its members at the forefront of systems transformation through collective action, accountability and innovation. We collaborate to optimize impact both internally, and externally, and work in a highly matrixed environment to support member companies in enabling sustainability performance, accountability and valuation. We work across geographies and sectors with members, partners, standard-setters and other NGO's across the ecosystem to define a transformative approach to transparency that promotes and enables systemic resilience, sustainable growth and competitive advantage.
Job OverviewThe Director, Risk Insights will lead WBCSD's work with our members and partners to integrate sustainability-related risks into enterprise risk management (ERM) frameworks, strategy, governance, disclosure and capital allocation. This role will lead and execute key strategic initiatives that position risk management - especially physical risks from climate change and environmental degradation - as a core driver of corporate performance and accountability across value chains to enhance resilience, decision-making, and value creation.
This role will take forward a key pillar of our wider program of work to develop a robust and integrated corporate performance and accountability system (CPAS). This integrates considerations of climate, nature, equity and circularity into decision making and capital allocation across value chains. Our areas of focus include enhancing transparency, accelerating resilience and transition and aligning finance and value to empower and enable long term value creation, resilience and competitive advantage through collective action, accountability and innovation. We also convene CFOs and other executives in peer networks for peer-to-peer learning and capacity building.
The role will be reporting to the Vice President, Corporate Performance & Accountability who is based in Amsterdam. It will have one direct report, and require working in a high-paced, matrixed environment across various time zones.
Main Responsibilities
- Strategic Leadership: Develop, lead and execute the CP&A risk strategy and related program of work aligned with WBCSD's broader goals on sustainability integration, transition and adaptation planning, and valuation, as part of the broader Corporate Performance and Accountability System (CPAS).

- Stakeholder Engagement: Lead engagement with member companies, investors, insurers, and supply chain partners to identify, assess, and address physical and transition risks across value chains, fostering collaborative approaches to resilience across value chains.
- Risk Transfer & Insurance: Provide expertise on risk transfer mechanisms, including insurance solutions for physical climate risks, and support members in evaluating and implementing these strategies.
- Risk Governance: Guide member companies in strengthening their risk governance frameworks, ensuring sustainability-related risks are embedded in board-level oversight, internal controls, and decision-making processes.
- Thought Leadership: Produce and disseminate guidance on integrating sustainability into ERM, including physical risk, transition risk, and intangible value considerations.
- Technical Expertise: Oversee the development of frameworks for assessing sustainability-related risks and opportunities, including impact accounting and materiality processes.
- Policy & Standards Alignment: Monitor and contribute to relevant global regulatory developments, including public-private collaboration and development of relevant standards and protocols.
- Cross-Team Collaboration: Work closely with other CP&A leaders and other WBCSD teams on initiatives to ensure integrated approaches to risk and performance.
