PROJECT DESCRIPTION
The UNDP Components B "Automation Center for Advanced Water Management Established, and O&M Capabilities Enhanced", C "Institutional Capacity Developed, Technology, and TVET in Water Management Mainstreamed", E "Project Management & Implementation Support" are an integral part of the Islamic Development Bank (hereinafter-IsDB) Project in Kazakhstan "Climate Resilient Water Resources Development (Phase-1)" Tranche-1 (hereinafter- Project). The Government of Kazakhstan (hereinafter-GoK) and ISDB defined the strategic objectives of the Project which aims to improve agricultural productivity, ensure food and water security for vulnerable communities, and build resilience to climate change and natural hazards by mitigating water scarcity, reducing irrigation losses, and enhancing agro-ecological zoning.
Through the Project, UNDP will step in to provide support to the holistic approach and implementation of the specific components of IsDB Project, by providing technical expertise, promoting and facilitating coordination, and ensuring alignment with international best practices. The Project is expected to strengthen institutional capacity, improve planning and implementation, and deliver benefits such as synergies due to the connection of activities, avoidance of overlaps and thus cost reduction, avoidance of potential contradiction due to harmonization of approaches and finally a significant step towards the digitalization in the water sector in Kazakhstan. This way the overall impact of the IsDB Project will be enhanced.
The Project will be implemented through the introduction of Integrated Water Resources Management (IWRM) principles, homogenizing methodologies, embedding a digitalization component, incorporating a holistic and integrative vision to link related activities. In addition, assisting KazSRIWE in developing a sustainable vision, business strategy to explore commercial opportunities. All interventions will adhere to international best practice standards and support long-term operational and institutional sustainability.
The objective of the Project is to form a homogenous vision and target, closing knowledge gaps, and strengthening technical and institutional capacities for improved water management, enhanced agricultural productivity, and increased climate resilience.
