Details
Mission and objectives:
- Founded in 1951, IOM is a sister organization of the United
Nations and, as the leading UN agency in the field of migration,
works closely with governmental, intergovernmental and
non-governmental partners. IOM is committed to promoting humane and
orderly migration for the benefit of all. It does this by promoting
services and advice to governments and migrants.
Context:
- Gabon is a key transit and destination country for many
migrants, mainly from West and Central Africa. According to the
United Nations Population Fund, migrants accounted for more than a
quarter of the population in 2022, or 462,380 people. As in other
contexts, Gabon faces complex social dynamics that often manifest
themselves in opposition, conflict, verbal tension, and intolerant
messages, including on social media, in the press, and at large
gatherings. These phenomena pose a significant challenge to social
cohesion between migrants and host communities.
- In response to this situation, the project aims to strengthen
migrant integration and social cohesion in Gabon by addressing hate
speech. It is aligned with Gabon's national development priorities
and the country's international commitments in the areas of human
rights, migration governance and the promotion of social
peace.
- The UN Volunteer to be recruited will support IOM Gabon in the
implementation of this project, contributing to innovative,
inclusive and sustainable actions that address the urgent needs of
vulnerable populations and strengthen the Gabonese government's
national development agenda. The United Nations Volunteer may be
required to carry out field missions in different regions of the
country.
Task description:
- Under the direct supervision of the Project Manager, the
Resource Mobilization Associate will support the International
Organization for Migration (IOM) Gabon in strengthening its
fundraising and partnership efforts. He/she will contribute to
increasing the visibility of the organization, supporting
multi-stakeholder partnerships, and mobilizing resources for the
implementation of programs/projects promoting safe and orderly
migration. The United Nations Volunteer (UN Volunteer ) will work
closely with his/her project management colleagues in the country
office and regional office, focusing on resource mobilization,
donor relations, and partnership development.
- Specifically, the UN Volunteer will:
- Assist in identifying funding opportunities and calls for
proposals relevant to IOM Gabon's priorities.
- Support the drafting of concept notes, project proposals, and
donor requests in accordance with donor requirements and
formats.
- Contribute to the preparation of donor reports, ensuring
compliance with IOM standards and donor requirements.
- Maintain and update a database of donors, funding
opportunities, and partnership agreements.
- Help develop and maintain relationships with public and private
sector donors through regular communication and follow-up.
- Coordinate with other IOM Country Offices and field missions,
as needed, to share good practices and facilitate project
development.
- Complete any other tasks assigned by the supervisor.
- During the first month of the mission, the UN Volunteer will
work closely with his/her direct supervisor to finalize an agreed
work plan. The work plan should define key objectives and
activities and include regular debriefings with the supervisor to
assess progress and receive performance feedback.
