Mission and objectives:

  • UNICEF works across the globe to protect the rights and well-being of every child, especially the most disadvantaged, ensuring they survive, thrive, and reach their full potential. Operating in over 190 countries and territories, UNICEF partners with governments, civil society, and communities to save lives, defend rights, and build a better future for all.
  • In Uzbekistan, UNICEF has been a trusted partner for more than 30 years, supporting national efforts to guarantee that every child—regardless of background—has access to quality health care, education, protection, and opportunities to participate. Together with the Government and partners, UNICEF strives to create an inclusive environment where children and young people can learn, grow, and contribute to sustainable development, ensuring a fair chance for every child and young person.

Context:

  • The UNV Specialist will be embedded within the Education (Learning, Skilling and Participation) team, which leads interventions across the lifecycle of a child - from early childhood development and preschool to school education and the school-to-work transition.
  • In Uzbekistan, UNICEF chairs the Local Education Group and has spearheaded the development of the National Partnership Compact. UNICEF supports the Ministry of Preschool and School Education to expand access to inclusive early childhood education, introduce competency-based and gender-transformative curricula, and reform assessment systems. UNICEF is also advancing integration of digital and AI-based solutions to improve learning outcomes, while working with diverse partners to equip adolescents and youth with transferable, digital, STEM, green, employability, and entrepreneurship skills, as well as opportunities for first employment experiences.
  • Given the breadth of these strategic partnerships with government agencies, IFIs, development agencies, NGOs, and the private sector, UNICEF requires professional support to design and deliver high-quality monitoring, reporting, communication and visibility functions. The UNV Specialist will play a critical role in demonstrating the significant work undertaken, the results achieved, and the impact generated, thereby strengthening donor engagement and amplifying UNICEF's leadership in education and youth empowerment.
