Details
Mission and objectives:
- UNICEF is mandated by the United Nations General Assembly to advocate for the protection of children's rights, to help meet their basic needs and to expand their opportunities to reach their full potential. UNICEF is guided by the Convention on the Rights of the Child and strives to establish children's rights as enduring ethical principles and international standards of behaviour towards children. UNICEF insists that the survival, protection and development of children are universal development imperatives that are integral to human progress.
- UNICEF and China have a long history of collaboration. In 1947, China became the first country in Asia to welcome a partnership with UNICEF, and our first programme provided emergency relief services to children. Between 1948 and 1951, our work in China included child feeding, as well as training to build capacity for maternal and child health care, sanitation and first aid. This training programme later influenced China's "barefoot doctor" rural healthcare system. Our partnerships in China resumed in 1979. Since that time, we have contributed to many of China's most significant developments for children.
Context:
- With China's growing role in international development cooperation, the resource mobilization, contribution management, and development cooperation component of UNICEF China has seen a significant increase. Under the guidance of the Partnerships Specialist, the Partnerships Coordinator is expected to support resource mobilization efforts, in particular on grant management and reporting on the Global Development and South-South Cooperation Fund (GDF).
Task description:
- Within the delegated authority and under the supervision of the Partnerships Specialist or his/her designated mandated representative(s), the Partnerships Coordinator will:
- ・Support in day-to-day Contributions Management as per funding agreements and UNICEF contribution management policies and procedures, in particular on reporting of projects funded by the Global Development and South-South Cooperation Fund (GDF) and quality assurance review (e.g., data, figures).
- ・Assist in a grant management tracker to help the Unit track the status of projects under implementation, including fund allocation, fund receipts and unspent balances, and help ensure timelines for donor reports, financial reports, key correspondence with donors, etc. are fully met.
- ・Provide translation services as and when required based on the partnership's advocacy and resource mobilization needs of the office.
- ・Support in knowledge and information management and partnership building with donors, through assisting with regular meetings and communications, and documenting knowledge and learning as needed.
- ・Any other related tasks as may be required or assigned by the supervisor.
- Furthermore, UN Volunteers are encouraged to integrate the UN Volunteers programme mandate within their assignment and promote voluntary action through engagement with communities in the course of their work. As such, UN Volunteers should dedicate a part of their working time to some of the following suggested activities:
- ・Strengthen their knowledge and understanding of the concept of volunteerism by reading relevant UNV and external publications and take active part in UNV activities (for instance in events that mark International Volunteer Day);
- ・Be acquainted with and build on traditional and/or local forms of volunteerism in the host country;
- ・Provide annual and end of assignment self-reports on UN Volunteer actions, results and opportunities.
- ・Contribute articles/write-ups on field experiences and submit them for UNV publications/websites, newsletters, press releases, etc.;
