Mission and objectives:

• UNICEF works to promote and protect the rights of every child, with a particular focus on those who are most vulnerable and disadvantaged. We work with the government to improve national and regional policies, programmes and services for children and adolescents. Together with partners, we address common barriers to the realization of their rights.

Task description:

• Under the supervision of the UNICEF-Mindanao Field Office Communication Officer, the Communication and Reports Officer will undertake the following functions:
• Assist in the planning, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of an advocacy and communication strategy to promote respect for children's and women's rights, and support UNICEF's mission in the country
• Assist in writing and editing human interest stories, press releases, talking points, articles, scripts, and other written materials
• Assist in producing and designing content for social media, such as factographs, infographics, and other materials that require simple design;
• Provide support to sections in events, launches, campaigns, and other key communication activities
• Provide support for reporting, including donor reports, proposals, and other documents, to ensure their quality and consistency.
• Adapt multimedia assets from HQ Division of Communication, Regional Office, or other UNICEF offices for the local audience.

Required experience: 3 years

Nationality: Candidate must be a national, legal resident or hold refugee status in the country of assignment.

Required education level:

• Bachelor's degree in Communication, Journalism, Media Studies, Public Relations, Marketing, Social Sciences. Development Communications, Psychology, Risk Communication and Community Engagement, Communications, Anthropology, Sociology, International development, and/or relevant technical field. An advanced university degree will be an advantage.

Skills and experience:

• At least 3 years of professional work years of professional experience relevant to communication, print, and broadcast media, digital, or another related area acquired at either the national or international level.
• At least one instance of exposure to emergency programming, including preparedness planning and accountability to the affected population. Active involvement in a humanitarian crisis response programme is an advantage.
• Ability to work and adapt professionally and effectively in a challenging environment; ability to work effectively in a multi-cultural team of international and national personnel.
• Excellent technical competence in producing for various media formats (print, web, social media, particularly social media content development) is required.
• Excellent oral and written skills, excellent, drafting, formulation, reporting skills are required.
• Solid overall computer literacy, including proficiency in various MS Office applications, including Canva, Adobe Creative Cloud, or other design graphics software; familiarity with database management; and office technology equipment.
• Self-motivated, ability to work with minimum supervision; ability to work with tight deadlines.
• Sound security awareness.
• Have affinity with or interest in UNICEF volunteerism as a mechanism for durable development, and the UN System.
• Fluency in Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) languages is desirable.
