Title: National Child Participation Coordinator - open to Somali nationals only
ROLE PURPOSE:
The National Child Participation Coordinator provides technical support and coordination to ensure meaningful, safe, and ethical child participation across Save the Children Somalia's programmes, advocacy/campaign and governance processes. The role ensures children's voices inform programme design, policy influencing and internal decision-making, while strengthening systems, staff capacity, and partner engagement in line with organisational frameworks
SCOPE OF ROLE:
Reports to: Director of Child Rights, Policy, Advocacy & Campaigns (CPAC)
Staff reporting to this post: None
Budget Responsibilities: Contributes to budget planning; no direct approval authority Travel: Frequent field travel
Role Dimensions:
- Technical authority on child participation within the Country Office
- Works across Programme Implementation Units (PIUs), MEAL/REALM and CPAC/ Communications teams
- Engages at national-level policy and coordination platforms
- Works closely with global/regional technical advisors (matrix support)
- Contributes to strategy, programme quality and fundraising
- Ensure children's voices are heard in the CO design making processes
- Stakeholder Engagement: High (internal + external representation)
- Autonomy: Moderate - High (works independently within strategy)
- Problem Solving: Advanced (adapts solutions to complex contexts
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
QUALIFICATIONS
Degree in Social Sciences, Child Development, International Development or related field
EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS
Experience
- Minimum 4 years of relevant professional experience, including demonstrated experience in child participation, child rights programming,
- Proven experience in designing and implementing child participation approaches, including application of recognised standards and safeguarding principles
- Strong experience in training and facilitation, including delivering workshops or capacity-building sessions for staff, partners, or children
- Demonstrated experience in child-centred programme design and/or advocacy initiatives, including contribution to proposals, programme development, or campaign activities
- Experience working with NGOs, civil society organisations, and/or government stakeholders, with proven ability to coordinate across diverse partners
- Proven ability to coordinate across teams and contribute to proposal development, donor reporting, or programme documentation
Desirable
- Experience working in humanitarian or fragile contexts
- Knowledge of Somali systems and operating context
