Senior Research Assistant (Internal#87/2026)

The Emerging Infections and Parasitology Laboratory focuses on
vector-borne diseases of public health importance, with particular
emphasis on arboviral infections and malaria. The laboratory
conducts research on diseases such as dengue, chikungunya, Japanese
encephalitis, Zika, and malaria, encompassing pathogen
surveillance, epidemiology, transmission dynamics, diagnostics, and
intervention strategies. In addition, the laboratory investigates
other parasitic and neglected tropical diseases, including
leishmaniasis, enteric protozoan infections, and helminth
infections.
Position Description:
The Senior Research Assistant will report
directly to the Principal Investigator and will be responsible for
coordinating and conducting research activities for the study
evaluating the entomological and epidemiological efficacy,
feasibility, acceptability, and cost-effectiveness of implementing
community-based spatial repellents (SRs) in high-risk wards of
Dhaka. The role includes, but is not limited to, the following
responsibilities:
- Establish and maintain liaison with field staff to ensure
effective communication and coordination.
- Receive, store, and maintain an inventory of samples from field
sites.
- Perform DNA/RNA extraction techniques (both standard and rapid)
from human blood or Dried Blood spots, and conduct various
molecular assays (e.g., ELISA, PCR, and RT-PCR).
- Conduct laboratory activities for the detection and
characterization of arboviral infections using arboviral panel
ELISA assays.
- Oversee mosquito surveillance activities, including vector
collection, species identification, and monitoring of vector
density and indices.
- Comply with laboratory safety standards and maintain proper
documentation of all procedures.
- Maintain study documentation, including field logs,
inventories, monitoring reports, and regulatory records.
- Interpret tests, generate reports on results, and keep accurate
records.
- Prepare periodic progress reports and provide regular updates
to the Principal Investigator on study implementation, challenges,
and mitigation measures.
Required qualifications and experience:
- Master's degree in Biochemistry/Molecular Biology/Zoology with
good academic records.
- At least 3 years of experience in infectious
disease or vector-borne disease research, preferably involving
arboviral diseases, malaria, or entomological surveillance.
- Hands-on experience in molecular and serological techniques,
including DNA/RNA extraction, PCR, RT-PCR, Flow cytometry and
ELISA.

Contract Type and Duration:
- Short-Term; duration will be 06
months with a possibility of extension, subject to
availability of funds and performance.
Salary & Benefits:
- Tk.50,267/-per month (consolidated) inclusive
of house rent and conveyance allowances; Festival bonus, income tax
paid by icddr,b and subsidized canteen. Transport and daycare
facilities are subject to space availability.
