Webinar: Data Governance for Children in EdTech: Perspectives from North & Latin America & Caribbean
As part of UNICEF Innocenti’s initiative on data governance for children, the Global Office of Research and Foresight convened experts from five regions to develop policy recommendations that promote responsible and ethical data use in EdTech. With EdTech expanding rapidly and AI integration accelerating, children’s data is being processed on a massive scale - shaping their rights to privacy, education, non-discrimination, and autonomy. Yet governance frameworks remain fragmented, and regulation is struggling to keep pace.
This webinar examined these challenges and highlighted emerging global insights on data governance in EdTech. Speakers shared UNICEF’s latest policy recommendations and reflected on how they can be translated into practice across diverse regional contexts, with perspectives from North America and Latin America and the Caribbean. They also discussed real-world examples of risks and opportunities in the EdTech ecosystem, offering pathways for strengthening collaboration among policymakers, the private sector, and civil society to better safeguard children’s rights.
