Improving Dairy Value Chains Through Cold Transport in Kabul, Kapisa and Wardak
In Kabul, Kapisa and Wardak provinces, fresh milk is widely available, but for many dairy farmers, keeping products fresh on the way to market was a daily struggle. UNDP has provided four refrigerated trucks to help farmers protect the quality of their dairy products, reach customers faster and increase their incomes.
“Our biggest challenge was keeping dairy products fresh during transport. Now, with this truck, everything has changed,” says Amir Mohammad, Head of a local dairy company.
According to Fahad Bangash, Central Region Area Manager at UNDP, this support is about more than transport. It is helping strengthen food security, expand women’s access to markets, create jobs and build clean, resilient livelihoods.
To make the effort sustainable, community committees have also been established to manage the operation and maintenance of the vehicles, alongside training on dairy production and long-term self-reliance.
