Seaweed cultivation using rafts in Osi Island, Maluku
In Desa Eti, farmers clean, weigh, and tie seaweed seedlings before
transporting them by boat to nursery rafts in the waters around Osi Island.
These rafts are routinely cleaned of algae and other marine organisms to
maintain water circulation and support healthy growth, with seedlings typically
ready for harvest in about 45 days. Seaweed cultivation remains a primary
source of income for many coastal families in West Seram.
