🙌🐟 Sardines are back! But not long ago, Iberian sardines were struggling and stocks were low. Today, there’s good news is that now this fishery is MSC certified. This means that these sardines are now fished in a way that protects the ocean and the future. How did they do it? Fishers took practical steps to protect the sardine stock: ✅ reduced the amount of fishing taking place ✅ introduced science-led catch limits, ✅ started having closed seasons, ✅ developed a shared Spanish and Portuguese management plan But they didn’t do it alone. Spanish and Portuguese fishers, processors, distributors, scientists and NGOs came together to support the sardine comeback. And now, this fishery has earned MSC certification.
