In Gala, Azerbaijan, an organic school garden supported by FAO's Lifecycle Management of Pesticides project is transforming how children learn about agriculture. Financed by the Global Environment Facility, the garden serves as a classroom without walls. Project manager Firuza Sultan explains that the goal is to actively involve local populations and communities, including farmers and schoolteachers. When children learn organic farming practices, they share this knowledge with their families, creating a ripple effect. Sultan envisions a national platform where children, parents, and teachers work together to protect the environment, promote healthy eating, and engage youth in agriculture. What grows in this garden is not just organic vegetables—it is ownership, pride, and a commitment to a safer, healthier way of life.
