Catalysing and Institutionalising Gender Transformative Change at Nespresso

Gender-Transformative Change in Coffee: Buzzword or Structural Shift? What does it really take for businesses to move beyond “including women” toward transforming the norms and power relations that sustain inequality? Can Gender Transformative Approaches (GTA) be meaningfully applied within corporate sustainability programs—and if so, what changes do they actually generate in practice? This webinar, hosted by the Gender Transformative Research Methodologies Community of Practice (GTRM-CoP) explored these questions through the Catalysts of Gender Transformative Change (CTC) program, developed between KIT Institute and Nespresso. Implemented over more than six years across 16+ countries, CTC works directly with agronomists and technical staff to embed gender-transformative thinking into coffee value chains and community engagement. Drawing on concrete experience, the session unpacked the origins of CTC, examined how gender-transformative principles are translated into practice, and reflected on key lessons for those seeking to advance more equitable and transformative approaches in agribusiness.
